Have you been following the progress of our #TeamBreconCarreg competition and umm-ing and ah-ing over whether to join? Well, this week is your last chance to enter you and a friend for this fantastic opportunity.
By applying to join #TeamBreconCarreg you’re in with the chance of winning entry to a number of races across Wales and lots of support and encouragement along the way, from both us and fellow runners.
We caught up with Sioned Jones from Run Wales, our partner for #TeamBreconCarreg, to find out why they chose to join us.
“Run Wales is a social running programme set up to inspire, encourage and support every adult in Wales to start running or run more often,” she said.
“The #TeamBreconCarreg initiative replicates this, and links people together in a way that provides support and motivation for those making a change for good in their lives.
“We want to celebrate individuals and groups who run, walk and jog their way to a more active lifestyle. Brecon Carreg has reached out to everyone regardless of age, fitness level, aspiration or location, and has encouraged them to become a part of their running community and, as a result, ours.”
Pretty inspiring, right? But if you’re in need of an extra reason to fill out the form then 28-year-old Phillip Scully’s story about his Cardiff Half Marathon journey, and why it was so important that he had a running buddy for the race, might just persuade you.
Though “on a mission” to get fit, and having dropped eight stone, he admits his “heart sunk” when he was selected as he had not run for any more than a minute.
“I would never have bought a space because I had no self confidence in my running,” he says.
“To get a free space really helped push me to achieve the goal in front of me. My friend, Faye, who had also received a free space (and a much more natural runner as it turned out) was so valuable as a source of motivation and inspiration.
“She slowed her speed to run with me in training and made sure I was waking up at half five in the morning to go for the run in the rain that I would have slept through if I had been alone.
“I am completely inspired to continue my running journey. In fact I immediately booked in to the World Half this March, and am hoping to book the St David’s 10k as well.”
