Heading to the Cardiff Half Marathon? Then be sure to find the mermaid tent in the race village – it’s your last chance to help #SaveTheMermaids!

Inspired by Visit Wales’ Year of the Sea, we teamed up with Green City Events this summer to raise awareness of the problems of plastic waste and to encourage more people to recycle.

By taking part in the #savethemermaids campaign, you’ll have the chance to meet some mermaids and find out how you could make some very small changes that will make a very big difference. And, here’s the best bit, you’ll even have the chance to have your very own mermaid makeover!

Throughout the summer, the mermaids have toured some of Wales’ biggest running events and the Cardiff Half is your last chance to meet them. Local artist Antonia Salter made our incredible mermaid tails from different types of plastic that are used in our everyday lives. You really have to see it to believe it – come and see what plastics you can spot!

Run Refuel Recycle

We’ve also teamed up with Recycle for Wales and Run4Wales to encourage runners and spectators to recycle at this year’s Cardiff Half Marathon.

With 25,000 runners expected at this year’s sold-out event, it’s important for us to remind them to run, refuel with our water and then recycle at the clearly signed points.

Find out more about the campaign here and find out how you can help make a HUGE difference.
